If you have been closely following our website lately, I’m sure you must have heard of “Neva,” the new app by Virtual Lust. We’ve been posting some teasers here and there and even had a contest going on regarding this exciting new project. The artist behind this product is Eclipse, and what better way to find out more than through an interview:
Please tell us a little something about yourself. What do you do outside of 3DX?
Outside of the 3DX world I do remarkably normal things with bits of naughtiness thrown in every now and again. I try to get away from the computer as much as possible, but that’s hard as I’m a bit addicted to it. Gaming, watching shows, looking at other peoples artwork and work seems to take up a fair share of my life. So if there’s any excuse for a party or a morning swim, I’m there.
Where did the name Eclipse come from?
I chose the name partly because I like how it sounds but also because I’ve always loved looking at eclipses. They are rare and amazing. One can make you stop and think about what’s out there. I’ve always been fascinated with the universe and space themes so it seemed fitting.
How did you get started in art, especially 3DX?
I’ve always loved animation and thought about having it as a career, so I decided to teach myself how to animate. These days there’s so much information about the medium that it allowed me to explore this art form. It’s painstaking work but I really enjoy the process. The availability through Daz/Poser of affordable models and software you could use at home opened up a new world for me. Poser is my weapon of choice for animating at the moment but I’m starting to use Maya as well. I love animated cycles or GIFs and thought I could produce some interesting sexual pieces. I gave it a try and made a couple of simple tests. My early stuff was rubbish and I’d be embarrassed to show it but I kept persisting and soon I found techniques and tricks that made it easier to make realistic animation. That was exciting and I guess I caught the animation bug because now I can’t stop. At first I just started animating for fun to see what I could produce but around the same time apps were starting to take off and I thought, hang on a minute, why don’t I create an adult app? Easier said than done. That decision set me on a path that has lasted several years, made me learn a whole new set of skills and opened my eyes to the obstacles people face who create adult art. But I’m enjoying the process.
Now most of the readers here will know your name from your project ‘Virtual Lust’. Could you tell us a little something about this upcoming release? What is it about and what can we expect?
Virtual Lust is releasing its first adult app for android called “Neva.” The main character “Neva” is alone and in need of sexual release, so she uses a virtual reality headset to enter a world of virtual sex. The 3DX app is an interactive movie that requires you to touch Neva in just the right spot at the right time to unlock the next level or the next part of the level, progressing from foreplay to orgasmic climax. Along the way you can interact with Neva and touch her body in certain places making her moan with ecstasy. Having that tactile response of using your fingers and having her respond in a sexy voice heightens the experience.
Where did you get the idea of creating such an application?
Originally I thought about creating a Kama Sutra app that allowed you to view lots of sexual positions with interesting characters that you could choose from. I was trying to think of adult content that was accepted in the mainstream market – the Kama Sutra positions somehow managed to be an acceptable topic of conversation, staying outside of the ‘porn’ umbrella, but man there are a lot of those positions!
This is something new I guess. It’s an interactive film that progresses only if you do what Neva wants. If you don’t do it quick enough than you have to redo the chapter or level, along the way you can hear her moan if you find the areas on her body that make her happy. This interaction is throughout the whole application. I want the viewer to be able to watch an adult movie but to also be a part of the process. I remember trying to figure out the design of the app in it’s early stages so you could interact and hold the phone with one hand. We’ll see if I have achieved what I set out to do.
And could you perhaps tell us something about the process of making such an app? What programs/tools did you use for the creation of this project?
We’ve used many different tools but the characters and sets are Poser assets. I love Daz3d characters and when I started this project I was using everyone’s favourite Victoria 4, since I started we’ve now seen the emergence of Victoria 7 and Genesis 3 models. I’ve stayed with V4 because it’s easier to animate using Poser unlike Daz Studio which is near impossible to animate with, although Poser is also painstakingly slow, especially if you want the animation to look great. You can animate some things easily but getting a sexy looking piece takes a long time. The key to great animation is great reference material. Sure you have to know how to block your shots, animate your shots and then tweak that animation, and tweak it some more and more and more, but before all of that you need to find inspiring reference material. I’m into realistic animation that just pushes boundaries and I love the freedom to use camera angles that would be extremely hard if not impossible to do with live action. One of the best advantages to using Daz and Poser assets is being able to dress models or change their appearance with the click of a button. That’s a huge benefit which in some cases makes animating in Poser justifiable. Originally I tried to make a flash game but that was too limiting and buggy so I thought about HTML 5 and then finally realized my coding skills are pretty limited so I outsourced building the app software and it has allowed me to focus on the art. The great team I worked with used J2ME.
Who or what are your biggest inspirations? (Perhaps specific artists, works or genres, both in 3DX or just mainstream media)
I am in awe of the amazing talent that we see in the 3dx world at the moment. There are so many great artists and animators. I’m particularly impressed with Miro’s work here on this site. His body of work is prolific and the quality is extremely high. He’s an artist who can do it all and I appreciate the amount of work that goes into producing G4E and his previous comics. Stimuli is another animator whose work is inspiring. If you haven’t seen any of his work I would recommend you try to find some of his earlier work where he produced interesting little animated scenes that were humorous and well crafted. Dezmondel and Epoch and Haneto are more favorites in the 3DX scene. I’m inspired by anyone that can create sexy artwork that arouses. Certain photographers and cinematographers like Derek Vanlint who filmed Alien and Jordan Cronenweth for Blade Runner. Of course Geoffrey Unsworth who was the cinematographer for 2001 Space odyssey. All of the artists, set designers, effects artist and animators who were associated with those films really paved the way for what we enjoy today. They were visionaries and we see reference to their work in contemporary movies. If you’ve seen The Force Awakens you’ll notice the homage to Vittorio Storaro’s work in Apocalypse Now. There was something about movie making at that time – it was so creative and masterful it’s hard not to be inspired. Whenever I need motivation, I’ll watch those films.
I would like to dive a little deeper into the story of Virtual Lust and Neva. I understand that it takes place in the distant future and that she is residing in a space station in outer space. Could you tell us more about this world? And how did you come up with this setting?
Yes, Neva is our protagonist living and working in the outer regions of space. She looks after things on the station and every so often she needs to look after herself. Contact with others on the station is limited. Neva loves sex. She loves hot sensual sex and luckily for her, the station is equipped with many different outlets for her needs.
Virtual Lust is a virtual reality simulator that allows her to log on and see who might be available for virtual interaction. The simulator allows for strangers or friends to meet with you in this virtual space and engage in sex exactly the same way as in the real world. If there is no one online at the time you can choose from a collection of computer simulated avatars that are tailor made to your specifications. On some days Neva might want to have sensual sex with a man and on other days she will want to have sex with a…well, you’ll have to wait and see what Neva wants in upcoming stories. She’s not shy and she can be quite demanding in Virtual Lust. Every fantasy and desire can be played out in the Virtual Lust program.
I’m definitely a sci-fi fan, and there are some hot women in sci-fi movies. I like women who are sexy, cool, strong and smart – exactly the kind of character I wanted Neva to be. I also needed a reason for her to have virtual sex – being located deep in outer space seemed to answer that. In the comic I was able to include some great background sets, but as I went with a ‘virtual’ world for the sex scenes I decided to simplify the background and try to incorporate a HUD (heads up display) feel. I love the graphics from “Iron Man” and similar movies that utilize this imagery and I thought this might work well in that environment.
In the app we see Neva diving into the virtual world ready for a very intimate experience. Now I was wondering: Who is the man in this story? Is he a creation of the virtual program or is he, just like Neva, a real person using a simulator, which causes them to meet in this virtual space?
That’s a great question, I think it’s fun to allow the user to make up their own mind as to who this mystery man is, create the reality that gets them excited. I like both your ideas and I like the thought it won’t always be the same character she meets/chooses. The ultimate idea would be to have multiple options to choose from – allowing people to create their ideal fantasy.
Virtual Lust is very close to being released now. How are you feeling?
I’m looking forward to a happy finish. Neva is someone I would love to find in my bedroom so I hope others will too. I’m excited for people to play, watch and interact with Neva. Virtual Lust has turned out exactly as I was hoping and in some ways it’s better. The audio always brings a certain enjoyment to these kinds of products for me and I was lucky enough to have Marie Fasolt – the voice of Tara in Girlfriends 4 Ever – create the sensual voice for Neva.
Where can we find more about you and your products? And where will we be able to find ‘Virtual Lust’?
I upload new artwork I’m working on to our website and Tumblr but for distribution of the app, comic and upcoming movie I have partnered with Affect3D and MiKandi.
Now that this project has almost been completed, do you already have any plans for a next project/product? Or will we perhaps be seeing a sequel of VL in the near future?
I have so many ideas, I just don’t know where to start. It would be fun to explore the VL world further. Why not make Neva fully virtual? I would love to have Neva available for VR with the ability to interact with her fully. More adventures and more exciting characters are also in the works. If you’ve visited my site I think you’ll see a character on there who will be in a future story.
Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
We would like to share that we are currently working with Miro and the team at Affect3D to make a movie version so people without Android devices can also enjoy Neva. We know not everyone has an Android phone and I want everyone to see Neva in action so we’ll try to accommodate as many platforms as we can. I am really encouraged by the support of the 3DX community and hope you guys and girls out there enjoy watching Neva.

May 5, 2016Hi KM, we would love to make an oculus version at some point as It’s something I’ve always dreamed of. This product is just the start of our journey with Neva and I hope you like the animation and the world I’ve created. Cheers Eclipse

May 5, 2016No windows (Oculus / HTC VIVE), no iphone. Perfect, the developers targeting the cheap android market. Guess that will meet with the quality we can expect to be cheap as well.

May 5, 2016Good luck releasing a pornographic app for the iphone. That is almost impossible

May 5, 2016Hi there!
Thanks for commenting.
The first release will indeed be for android only, but as the creator already mentioned in this interview, they are working on creating a video version that will be compatible with a lot of devices!
So I would like to ask you to please be patient, and then you can judge the quality for yourself 😉
KM
May 5, 2016A video version that is correct. But I was talking about the INTERACTIVE version. That’s why I mentioned oculus and HTC vive.

May 5, 2016To be clear, it’s impossible to create a version for iOS due to Apple’s anti-porn rules and the inability to create any legit apps outside the App Store ecosystem.
As for the VR setups, you do realize that the SDKs for those things are expensive and not widely available, correct?
Hana
May 5, 2016Ah yes I see!
I agree with you that it would be really cool to be able to see/play the app through such a virtual reality device.
Well who knows what the creator will be planning for the future~
