About the Circle
Double Soft Cream is a Japanese studio that has been active for nearly eight years, and over that time they’ve produced ten titles of escalating quality, cementing their reputation as one of the finest 3DX studios in the market. Suima was originally released on 26 Oct 08, followed by an English subtitle upgrade on 25 Nov 08. It is available on DLSite for 2,625 JPY ($34.13 USD).
Story/Format
As the story opens, our heroine Yuzuki is walking alone through crowded city streets, fretting about men ogling her as she passes by. Arriving at her destination, she receives a phone call from her Doctor who confronts her about her shyness, and urges her to carry out her fantasies as revealed in their sessions together. Shortly after ending her phone call, a mystery man captures and subdues her in a subway tunnel.
At his hideout, the abductor reveals that the kidnapping was setup by her Doctor. Then he strips her bare, and begins moving himself on her slowly and deliberately; coaxing her deeper and deeper into an abyss of sexual pleasure until she finally relents and explodes with passion. Within her frustrated mind, Yuzuki confronts her fears and embraces her sexuality. In the end, after exploring these themes through a dreamlike intermix of scorching hot sex scenes, the audience is left to ponder whether it was real or just the decadent fantasies of a sexually repressed woman.
The gradual progression of the sex-play and the overall length of the video (over one hour without looping) give us plenty of time to enjoy Yuzuki’s charms in multiple positions and dimensions. Themes of domination and submission are present throughout the storyline, however their incorporation into the actual sex-play is kept moderate as to not repulse a casual audience.
Throughout the movie, we’re treated to a complete spectacle of sexual theater showcasing our heroine with sumptuous blowjob scenes, vaginal & anal sex, breast sex, hand-jobs, tea-bagging, and even a little sex-toy play. My only criticism here is the odd choice of nipple rubbing instead of titty-fucking for the breast sex segment.
The flash video format is surprisingly well-suited to this presentation; giving us a simple, easy interface to change scenes and camera angles. There is also a “movie mode” control that will stream all the scenes in order with “hands-free” controls… quite helpful actually. I’m most impressed by how difficult it is to spot exactly when a particular scene starts repeating; a credit to the animators and engineers for integrating smooth visuals with a clean/tidy looping scheme.
One minor shortfall is the use anti-piracy protection. To download the movie from DLSite, you must have Pirates Buster installed on your PC. Aside from that, the copy-protection is unobtrusive; as the license gets installed transparently during download, and you aren’t pestered with log-in prompts. Normally I don’t like copy protection, yet for such a superior product I’m willing to put up with it.
The Girl/Characters
Yuzuki herself is a dream come true for fans of hardcore and hentai; supple and voluptuous, her generous curves, soft skin, plump nipples, flushed cheeks, and desperate lips ooze with eroticism and drip with passion. Yet, despite her lascivious shape, the artist was deliberate not to go overboard with wild hair style/color or costume/makeup; opting instead for a “girl-next-door” look that is masterful in its subtlety while also measurable in its exaggerations.
Yuzuki’s simple costume design is most effective in illustrating that she is not a slut, but rather a repressed girl who has yet to bloom. This choice in her characterization is central to the plot, as her master slowly unravels her inhibitions to reveal the intensely passionate woman deep inside.
The male character design is just as effective. Like Yuzuki, he is carefully understated enough to look like any average man, but “equipped” well enough to be convincing as our heroine’s sexual liberator. I really appreciate the way his cock is designed to be large, but not so absurdly huge as to make penetration seem painful or impossible.
Voice/Sound/Music
The voice actress delivers a strong, yet understated performance. Though often reticent, she never sounds whiny. Though ultimately flushed and aroused, she never sounds sleazy. In the end, Yuzuki’s gasps and moans are erotic without pushing the boundaries of realism. The one criticism I have for her voice is that it’s often looped poorly throughout the scenes, and is the only noticeable signal that a scene is being repeated.
The cut scenes are flavored with a sleepy, mesmerizing (albeit repetitive) score that helps to maintain the dream-like quality of the movie. The squishy squelching sound effects during sex are slightly overdone, yet still pleasantly offset by the lovely vocal performance.
As with most 3DX titles the male actor is not voiced, however thanks to the inclusion of English subtitles, the only thing missing from his performance is the grunts/groans of a guy having sex… and I can forgive that.
Graphics/Animation
The first thing I notice about the graphic design is the soft “fuzzy-lens” visual which accents the entire video. The effect is reminiscent of classic Penthouse Magazine (circa late 1970s) when Bob Guccione would stretch pantyhose over his camera lens before shooting; the end result being a soft glow around the characters that enriches the dreamlike atmosphere. This graphics effect is particularly well tuned to the plot; where at the end, as Yuzuki is masturbating in the shower, we are left wondering if the preceding events were really just her imagination.
Most impressive is the slow and deliberate animation of the sex-play; all the thrusting and humping is presented with a steady camera; highlighting all the gentle exaggerations and distortions to help the viewer *FEEL* the action on screen. I appreciate how the animator doesn’t get in a hurry with the sex; preserving a hypnotic quality that ensures long-lasting enjoyment from beginning to end. Though the (now aged) graphics do not “jiggle” or “undulate” as much as other contemporary works (e.g. Umemaro or @OZ), the minimized movement is still effective due to the overall subtlety employed throughout the title.
The sticky-sweet cum of both partners highlights every penetration scene, and is one of the strongest graphical effects. As Yuzuki’s master fucks her long and slow, you can clearly see gentle trails of translucent juices stretching between the cock and mouth/pussy. This effect is brilliantly showcased during the missionary position with perfect close-ups of the cock plunging in and out of her dripping wet mound, and punctuated by lovely shots of dripping juices from her mouth and pussy to celebrate the orgasms of both actors… simply perfection!
There are also a few x-ray shots employed out through the sex-play. Like the other fetishes presented in this video, they are consistent enough to be lurid but not persistent enough to be annoying. Lastly, despite what you see in some screenshots, the censorship mosaic is extremely light. Apart from a little distortion around the cock and pussy, it’s almost invisible.
Long Term Value
At over $30 dollars (US), Suima is a very expensive title, but even today it’s well worth the cost. Furthermore, this title was upgraded with English subtitles shortly after release, making it one of the rare DLSite purchases that cater to its western audience. I’ve had this title in my personal collection since it was released over three years ago, and to this day it still gets me off. Between the slow intense fucking, and the desperate moans of our heroine, I can always go back to this video and feel satisfied. Bottom line, Suima is worth every penny, and Double Soft Cream deserves to make money off this masterpiece because they NEED to make a second episode! I have to see a Suima part two! And if you watch this video, I guarantee you will also want more!
Overall Impression/Last Words
There are only a few outstanding 3DX titles that deserve “Hall of Fame” recognition, and this is one of them. From top to bottom, from beginning to end, Suima delivers sex and eroticism in a blissful combination that almost no one can surpass. On many levels it’s just clean straight fucking, and yet it incorporates just enough kinkiness to make first viewings exciting and to keep repeat viewings interesting. Suima has the virtue of being both careful in the exaggeration of common hardcore elements, and subtle in the inclusion of fetishes. The end result is a masterpiece that is taboo enough to excite without being extreme enough to make you cringe.
