Hey guys, welcome back to the Affect3D video tutorial series, where we help Daz Studio users get started in Iray. This month we look at the surface tab. Surfaces are what we call the thin layer of customizable visual effects that coat any object in your scene. Whether you’re creating a marble floor, a lacy dress, or a naked girl, how convincing they look depends on the right settings. Like in real life, the way anything gets its appearance is determined largely by how light interacts with it. The same is true for rendered images.
The Surface tab can be a bit confusing, unfortunately. That is why we dedicated this month’s 3DX artist guide to the topic of surfaces. If we did our job right, then you’ll have learned where to find the surface tab, how the Iray layering system works, and which sliders to look out for when rendering skin. Once you know this, then in combination with last month’s episode on how to add and configure lights, you should have all the basics you need to create some pretty visuals!
Stay tuned for next month, when we dive further into more 3DX-specific topics.
