3DX has the potential to revolutionize porn and I’m saying it will become as common as butter on toast for your average consumer of porn. There’s no question 3DX is on the rise and it’s on the way to becoming mainstream porn along side big name studios like Twisty’s and Bangbros. The wheels have been set in motion, and once the train takes off there’s no stopping it!
No of course it won’t replace porn, it’ll just happily co-exist. For many it will be “the preferred option” but for most it will mean variety, and as you know variety is the spice of life. In the future a healthy lifestyle will mean complimenting your diet with a selection of kinks, fetishes and sexual fantasies, that only 3DX can provide.
For yours truly it has already surpassed average porn, I only consume regular porn as a side dish, but I suppose I’m an early adopter.
But what exactly have I “adopted” and what the fuck is 3DX?
What is 3DX?
In basic terms it’s porn or erotic art, created using 3D computer graphics. The most common names you may have heard include 3D Porn, 3D CG Porn or 3D Hentai. I’ve written a related article here: 3D CG, Hentai, Adult Art, Virtual Porn? What’s in a name?
What sets 3DX apart?
3DX is new, fresh and exciting, like the sexy, new girl friend (or boy friend) that makes you forget all the other girls you’ve ever dated. There something captivating and innovative about 3DX. I don’t remember the last time I was anxiously awaiting the next release of my favorite porn star or studio, 3DX titles on the other hand I eagerly look forward to in anticipation of the wild ride that awaits!
There is a reason behind all this excitement and it’s simple: 3DX makes your wildest fantasies come true! That’s a powerful statement, right there. There’s a lot of negative stigma attached to porn, it’s our dirty little secret and because of it, few people venture into creating porn. With 3DX, few of these barriers apply, which means porn is no longer restricted to porn producers with their army of porn stars and guys with 12 inch dicks, porn is now open to a new breed of producer, new guys and gals of any background, in other words it has the potential to re-write the rules on porn!
A simple example of why we need 3DX
So I’m a pretty boring guy when it comes to fetishes, I’m easily satisfied so to speak. For example I have a thing for a girl with fashion model good looks and… huge tits. A sensible and straight forward request, is it not? But alas in the real world that’s about as difficult to come by as girls at a starcraft 2 lan party. It’s such a simple concept yet there are social barriers that even if such a girl were born with big tits, she’d probably get them reduced to fit in. No such barriers exist in the world of 3DX. Adrian Lima with boobies the size of melons, everything’s fair go!
Ok so maybe you hate big tits, so apply the same concept to what ever kink or fetish you’re into. Was there ever a girl you dreamt of, who didn’t exist in the real world? Maybe it’s a certain look or ethnicity, maybe it’s a crush from school, maybe it’s some thing different all together like an elf or a girl with a dick. There’s no time to be prude, really dig deep and let your fantasy run rampant, no-one’s here to judge you. If you can find an artist who shares your “vision”, you’re set!
3DX can be very stimulating
I love the brain dead tits and ass comedy as much as the next guy. But there has to be a balance. Sometimes the grey cells need some action too, something to stimulate the mind and private parts all at the same time. Few “sensible” people will touch porn because of the social ramifications, sad but true. 3DX opens us up to a world of porn where the girl has the looks and the brains, personalities aren’t pathetic cardboard characters and the story lines are captivating and engaging and lead to sex not a pecker on the cheek and then a cut to waking up the next morning.
3DX and extreme fetishes
The big niche for 3DX is of course fantastic and extreme fetishes. Anything that involves unrealistic themes like aliens, the super natural, fantasy worlds or science fiction are hard to re-create with real world methods, this is the domain of 3DX and I don’t think I need to qualify how much better 3DX will serve this genre more so than anything you may have seen to date!
As for extreme fetishes, this article is not about controversy so I won’t talk about them here, this topic deserves a separate article, but suffice to say if we enter the dark and dreary world of the more “offbeat” extreme fetishes, some of these would be almost impossible to perform safely in real life, not so in 3DX. And by the way, you’ll have to redefine extreme, because things will be taken much, much further. I won’t go into the wrongs and and rights of such fetishes, but if anything I’d like see them in the world of 3DX rather than real life. Much like watching a good horror, you don’t actually want to watch people die, do you?
What if I only like regular porn?
Your covered too, in a big way!
Humans are very imaginative creatures. Each of us is unique and with individual desires and fantasies. We’re also born with a sex drive that stays with us till we’re old and grey, we see a cute girl on the street and all we can think about is locking our dick with that sweet pussy. So I say combine the two and go beyond the bounds of physical reality and really explore your inner most fantasies.
But if you’re the stock standard type, and I get you too, here’s what 3DX will do for you. Let’s focus on the sex scene and break it down. What is it that makes a sex scene arousing for you? It’s the girl, the position and the setting. Given that with 3DX virtually any girl imaginable can be laying there on the bed in front of you and that any type of setting realistic or non-realistic can be conjured up, let’s focus on the position.
The position is so important and we all have our favorites whether it’s missionary, pile driver, rear entry whatever it may be. What makes all the difference and the visual experience is the camera angle. Whether it’d be a wide shot, slow panning of the camera or close-ups, if the artists is skill full enough s/he can put you right in the middle of the action and get shots of angles you couldn’t possibly in the physical word.
For instance I recently witnessed a girl getting her face pumped with cum head on. Looking top down from the “performers angle” was nice, but the girl’s face can look a little out of proportion and usually she’s looking straight ahead, so you don’t get to see those beautiful eyes.
What I had the joy of viewing was amazing in comparison a full close-up of the girls face, her expressions and convulsions as cum exploded into her mouth and dripped down the sides of her face only about an inch above the cock. The body had to be made “invisible” for this shot to be taken and wow, what a difference it made, just incredible to watch!
But the girl isn’t real!
Yes, I get the statement, but I will never understand it. Some people drive manual, there’s hardly an advantage over automatic unless you’re a professional driver, yet some people will drive manual no matter what. Because they’re more in tune with the car? I don’t know. If you’re one of those people there’s nothing I’ll be able to tell you that will convince you to watch 3DX, but I thank you for reading this far 🙂
If you’re ok with driving auto, read on!
It’s quite simple really. The 3DX girls you see on screen are just as real as Megan Fox, Adrianna Lima or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. No not real life people, I’m talking about pixels on the screen or dots on paper. We see their pictures, enjoy them on TV or the silver screen, but we won’t ever touch, kiss, let alone put our dicks in them. But, but, but… there’s that tiny minuscule chance that it could happen, that you get to touch Megan Fox. Ok, so you see Megan Fox window shopping at your local mall, sweep her off her feet with your irresistible masculine charm and fly her off into the sun set in your $20 mio jet. What do I say to that? Be real 🙂
Oh, and I have another itsy, bitsy argument. Quick look over to the main stream Hollywood scene. What genres have dominated box offices world wide? Fantasy, science fiction, super hero’s and cartoons and the biggest movie of them all Avatar, all CG based.
So, is the general populous ready for 3DX? As soon as the quality and realism is there, they will be!
Why do we even need 3DX to become main stream?
Ok this is a bit of a catch 22 and this is why it’s taking so long to be “adopted” by regular folk. The reason we need 3DX to become mainstream is because this is the only way artists will have the budgets to create their best works at the best quality possible.
Their best works are in turn needed to penetrate the main stream market. See what I’m getting at?
The talent is already out there and they make do with what little facilities they have, shoe string budgets if that. 3DX is a grass roots movement of sorts, created by artist who just do it, because it’s their passion, imagine what they would be capable of, given the right tools and funding.
How do we get there?
There are many facets to answering this question, a lot of them to do with business and marketing, but lets focus on the product for a moment. I think two things that will have an immediate affect on people’s opinion and 3DX, a) quality and b) realism.
Quality and realism as in the physical detail of the characters and smoothness and realism of the animation. Realism is not absolutely necessary in terms of the character’s appearance, but it is more accessible. Say if the average person saw a girl looking so real they’d mistake her for being real. Having said that stylised characters are just as important and there’s definitely room for both.
Have we seen what 3DX is capable of? I think we’ve only scratched the surface. There’s something cooking in the kitchen, and I for one can’t wait to see what the future holds for 3DX!
Tell me what you think.
That’s my take on the current 3DX situation.
Agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments below!

November 4, 2015You just told everything it was needed to be said. 3D it’s so much near reality but still has its own rules, allowing things as a perfect slim girl having enormous breasts, or even a penis. You have a particular fetish? With 3DX you’ll have it the best way.
There are things porn actors can’t do or can’t be, but 3DX can.
P.S. you are the guy who made Girlfriends 4 Ever? My god, that is THE BEST 3DX around, honestly.
joe love
July 16, 2015I think 3DX is already way better than porn, with the exception of the scarcity of quality comment. lets face it, Girlfriends 4ever is the best 3dx title out there!(come at me bro) its incensored, and nearly perfect. there’s not much else uncensored in that quality range, but i’d still rather watch the same 3 or 4 good ones than resort to hairy balls, and pimply asses from a bad angle with a terrible soundtrack. i dont ever want to see a man’s cock, ever again at this point, girlcocks, bring it on, perfect bodies and outfits and settings and soundtracks, yes please. its easy enough to forgive lip synch, and hair physics, who fucking cares, as long as the boobs jiggle just right, i’m in. i say bring it on! more please sir, i want some more. thank you!

July 24, 2011In my experience there are 3 things keeping 3DX from taking off.
1. Time. It takes so much more time to create a single scene in Poser/Daz that a producer could create a whole movie with live actresses/actors in that time frame. Given the nature of porn as an essentially “disposable” art form the ability to quickly generate content is paramount.
2. Lack of decent flesh physics. You have clearly run into this problem. Penetration using V4/M4 simply doesn’t look realistic without massive amounts of post-work. Till that problem is resolved, it will be impossible to provide the needed suspension of disbelief. In this matter the Japanese laws requiring censorship are a massive benefit.
3. Lack of cheap motion capture technology. Till that occurs we will be forced to treat 3DX like a slightly cheaper stop motion animation. It is still massively more expensive than live actors.
That isn’t to say that it doesn’t have applications, or that the future won’t see these problems overcome. However, I don’t see these problems overcome till probably the end of this decade. We are still a long way off.
miro
July 26, 2011Good points all round! Now if you were specifically talking realism to the point where you can’t tell the difference, I would agree a decade, maybe even longer.
However that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of fun to be had along the way! Seeing things improve and evovle is going to be awesome!
I think there may be ways to address your points in the reasonably short-term though as well. But first I should mention that 3DX is not your regular “disposable” porn. Don’t get me wrong, yes it still has a very short life span, however I would categories it more along the lines of good movies and games.
Firstly, if we package 3DX it up as game, it’s not diposable at all anymore, a good game could keep you at it for weeks and months even.
As for regular porn and comparing it to movies say, it usually doesn’t step out of the B-grade category (of course there a lot of really quality porn as well), where as Umemaro’s or Pureprism’s work are classic or A-grade, meaning you remember those titles and get back to them occassionally.
For example no matter how great a movie is you usually watch it only once or twice, a crap B-grade movie you also only watch once, so the fact their both more or less “disposable” doesn’t elude to the fact that there is a huge gap in quality, which there obviously is.
But let me get to your points:
1. Time, it won’t ever get down to a couple of days, but can be reduced dramatically when we start seeing teams/ studios working on projects together!
2. Actually physics are surprisingly advanced already, I don’t think this will take long at all to get really good. No, you can’t do it in Poser, but more advanced packages like Max, Maya, etc yes! I’ll hopefully be show-casing more animated work from other artists to bring this point to light.
3. Motion capture isn’t 100% necessary but will sure help a great deal! I can see this happening when bigger porn studios pick up some 3DX artists, a kind of joint effort 🙂

July 23, 2011I think it could definitely penetrate porn/be better. But I would like them to be realistic as possible. And I really like videos far much more than images or image collections. I want to see the characters move, engage in sexual acts, not just imagine them.
miro
July 24, 2011Well so far it’s video that’s made a mark, ex. Umemaro, so yes that trend is going to continue as well as interactivity via games, which is even better than video, but will need even more work to get it looking realistic!

July 19, 2011Wow, that was a long read and a good one. I have to agree as well. I’ve been a fan of 3dx as you say for a while and I guess I have always wondered why it’s not more popular already, I mean there’s a lot of dodgy stuff around, but I guess that’s because it’s still fairly new. But take Umemaro for example you don’t see many beautiful girls like that in porn with such beautiful tits. Anyway, I totally agree with you I hope it takes off.

July 19, 2011Real porn, in my opinion, will get boring because eventually, as you’ve stated Miro, that there are limitations. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it helps define the line between reality and virtual reality/imagination. But everyone wants to escape reality to a place where they can let loose many of their inhibitions about a certain level of limitations. And that can only be done safely with 3DX/Erotic Art/Hentai, etc. The only part that I think will be very hard to recreate is the quirks/personality that each real person has and keep the consistency.
I think that 3DX will, with enough support, become pretty main stream. But I think along with quality of graphics, voice acting, etc…the biggest factor for getting people to come back to buying or watching will be storyline, character development, and the level of user/character interactiveness. Most people will get bored with the same scenario running over. The best way to sell a product/character/story is to have the audience attached somewhat emotionally. Creating a good sequel is just as crucial because there is nothing more disappointing than having your favorite characters being completely forgot by a sequel in any story/movie/game because they totally started from scratch. Final Fantasy does a hell of a job with making pretty good story lines from scratch but the fans of the previous series, I imagine, are disappointed to see there is no future for their favorite characters storyline. Don’t get me wrong, there is such a thing as beating a dead horse but as long as a story or characters are compelling enough, you can keep trucking.
Anyway, /endrant.
Just some random input there.
miro
July 19, 2011Well the only reason Porn hasn’t died off already is because us human have an unquenchable sex drive, we need something, anything to keep the testosterone in check.
About the quirks/ personality I think that’s a good point as in that it is that something that makes a performance “human” and not robotic, I think it’s a challenge but possible. It’s like a good actor who’s able to take on the personallity of a totally different character with their small nuances and intricacies.
I agree, the story can be a very powerful tool, if used effectively. Also interactivity, which will happen through 3DX games. I too, would love to see these explored more with 3DX, if anything it’s the way to do it, in terms of porn.
angus
July 19, 2011I’d have to agree the skill level of some of these guys is already amazing can’t wait to see how it all turns out. hentai is one of my favorites maybe 3d hentai can be even better.

July 18, 2011Meh, not sure getting paid on a more regular basis + gaining recognition is selling out. On another hand, I think that, if he were to make a go of it, he shouldn’t try to go to the Vanilla studios, he ought to try and get a director spot at places such as kink.com or evil angel studios. From recent posts, it seems he’s open minded to stuff like futa, etc, thus breaking out in a niche market, rather than a vanilla one, would be more feasible.
Anyway, his choice, though I find it sad that there are so few high class 3dx US material compared to those from Japan.
Amarantine
July 18, 2011You got me thinking, but I’m not sure you have to “sell out” and become mainstream to make good art.
miro
July 19, 2011Good point and one a lot of artists will struggle with. But I don’t agree. There is no shame in attempting to sell your art, quite the opposite it means you’re going out on a limb to promote what you love.
“Selling out” only occurs if you compromise your values as an artist because of the money. If you’re an independant rock band and turn to girly pop because someone offers you a suitcase of $100 bills then that is selling out, if you’re so engaged in your work, your style to the point where someone funds you because of who you are and what you represent then that is not selling out.
And as Countage says, you have to make a living we all exchange hours of our time for money in some way, so unless you’re planning on chaning society tomorrow, we’ll have to stick with that concept for a while 🙂
And yes, let’s hope we in the West catch up to the Japanese and their open approach to porn!

July 18, 2011Interesting article, but I feel I have to point out that the majority of advantages you ascribe to 3DX can be said of traditional erotic art as well, and that still only appeals to the niche consumer.
3DX may very well take off in the future, but for me personally it still isn’t quite there just yet. It generally isn’t technologically advanced enough to satisfy me when I want that “realism”, and I prefer the look of traditional 2d work when I want a more stylized look. It’s kind of in a middle ground where it’s a “jack-of-all-trades, but master of none” kind of thing.
It’s getting better though. Your work, and a few choice others have really impressed me with their art style and got me into thinking this could become more of my normal routine instead of just an occasional curiosity.
By the way, I’m one of those weird folks who prefers driving a manual but still would rather go for erotic art over traditional porn! 😉
miro
July 19, 2011I’ve got a background in drawing, which is where I learned a lot about anatomy. In fact for some unknown reason I never managed to go beyond the female anatomy. Others were off drawing stills of tea cups or landscapes or some shit and I’d still be drawing “the female anatomy”… but um.. yeah 🙂 So I love traditional art and hentai and all that good stuff, but as you say it’s still niche and I don’t see getting away from being niche for a long time, if ever.
The thing where 3DX has the edge is realism, that is one thing that can convince even the most sceptical, I mean when the lines between reality and fiction are blurred to the point where it’s hard to even tell the difference… But as I said that’s still many years down the line, there’s going to be a lot “research & development” that needs to happen till we reach that point, but for us early adopters it’s going to be a hell of ride seeing it all grow and develop! And that’s really what this article is about, just throwing some ideas out there and get the discussion going, whether negative or positive.
See that guy gggttt444 up there, he’s an artist, I’ll be featuring his work on here soon, wait till you see it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised 🙂
Oh and that manual reference… hehe I wrote that and thought, hey that’s not a bad analgy, but I read over it again afterwards and thought, oh shit you’ve just lost half of your readership… I’m glad you hung in there 🙂

July 18, 2011Put it like this, how much would you charge for the creation (and the rights of distribution) of your last ayako piece?
I’m asking this because I believe you ought to send free copies to the people at said companies and tell them about yourself and your work, no need to wait to be discovered.
miro
July 19, 2011I would charge just enough so that I could quit my job… 🙂 The rest is a bonus.
What your saying is very true and should be the approach. I think a lot of artists should do that right now. I personally don’t feel I’m ready until my stuff is animated. Once I’ve ticked off that check box, I’ll be on the hustle 🙂
gggttt444
July 18, 2011Anatomy is the most complex, the movement of every muscle, fat layer of soft performance, which are produced on the 3dx is a great challenge.
miro
July 19, 2011Yes, this is probably the biggest challange, especially for animation which makes it all the more interesting 🙂
gggttt444
July 18, 2011In fact, if a professional team to create, 3dx costs more than shooting.
However, its role can be glamorous to an alarming extent, I think this is it relative to the traditional film exists.
gggttt444
July 18, 2011We are traditional in nature and express no sex difference.
Film has its advantages, it is the endless details.
3dx advantage is that it gives the image of the protagonist into a dream.

July 18, 2011I don’t think a 3D girl can be as pretty as Megan Fox. I don’t see it yet.
angus
July 19, 2011Ive got a great idea how about a movie with Megan fox in it having sex? Ok, we’ll go 50/50 Miro, since I gave you the idea 🙂

July 19, 2011lol
dmcfanatic
July 18, 2011Um dovic, Megan Fox is really not that pretty/hot. If everyone saw their supermodel dreams without makeup and photoshop, they wouldn’t think they were that irresistibly hot then. But I need to get back on topic, which is about 3d porn. In all honesty I think 3D porn is as real as it can get. This is art, it truly is and being an artist/musician I can respect the time and effort that all these artists put in. There is nothing more real than a beautiful painting or a musical masterpiece. I for one would rather look at one of these pieces of art than real porn. Miro I am proud to say I was here from the start because I think this man has big things in store for this industry.
miro
July 19, 2011Totally agree and let me continue that train of thought. There’s a definite artistic side porn and it can add a whole lot more depth. Let’s take this example: What is it that separates a good movie from a bad one? Have you ever left the cinema thinking, wow did I just experience that with my own eyes! You did not want the movie to end you were totally engaged in the story, the character, the score and you can’t stop thinking about, can’t stop talking about it for hours, even days after words? What made this movie different? It was the 3 dimentional characters (no pun intended), the engaging story first and foremost. You have to be a good actor, to engage people on this level, and good actor don’t do porn. 3DX can create those kind of characters, because none of these characters will have any concerns about damaging their careers 🙂
Countage
July 18, 2011I’m interested in one thing – if Hustler/Vivid or other mainstream companies would come to you and ask for a movie, how much investment would you ask for? As they are looking for movies that range from 60 minutes to 100, I’m wondering whether, if you omit the production costs and wages in ordinary porn, 3DX would be cheaper.
miro
July 18, 2011Good question. I don’t think it’d be a lot cheaper for a 3DX movie, since it takes more time to create, but then again not too familiar what porn stars are charging these days. Once you’ve created your initial sets of assets though, things should become a lot more efficient, faster and less costly to make for additional productions, since you can re-use a lot of those assets.

July 17, 2011Enough Joke’s i think that 3dx it’s a another way for porn the real porn can be rude very rude and chack people but here it’s just like a fantasm nothing more and we always want to see more perfected girl in 3d or graphics ^^ will 3dx penetrate real porn ? hum my guess ……. not really this 2 different thing and for the moment porn in 3d are to limited (maybe in the time i talk someone find a way to make 3dx more realistic than real porn we’ll see :p
miro
July 17, 2011I agree it’s not there yet, but will it be in the future, no question… for me at least. Once it catches up in terms of quality and realism, people will lap it up.
It will take quite a few years though.
3DX is still porn, just porn with more options I think, so I don’t think they’re too different, can be, really depends on the artist. That’s the great thing about 3DX it’s only limited by the people’s imagination =)
I think it’s not about making it more realistic than porn ;P , it’s about making it as realistic and then exploring all the other possiblities only 3DX has 🙂
