Cosplay sex. Whether you’re going to a Halloween party or an anime con, if you’ve put on a costume, the thought has crossed your mind. As well it should. Garrett Hao gave us a view into the origins and fetishization of the hobby in this month’s What’s Your Fetish column. Go take a peek.
Cosplaying The Odds
Subcultures can form around anything: a form of music, a genre of fiction, a style of car, a period in history, and numerous other possibilities. Cosplay is no different. Participation in a subculture brings us together with other like-minded people to provide meaningful social interaction and a better chance to find a mate.
Therefore, this is an adaptive behavior. Adaptive, in the anthropological definition, means that the behavior increases survivability, access to mates, or both. Let’s face it, your nerdy hobby isn’t going to get you much play with… let’s say sports fans. However, go to an anime con dressed as your favorite character, and you’ve got an instant ice-breaker. The odds are now in your favor. Adaptive 😊
A special note for those of you with a homosexual or transgender identity: Anime cons are a welcoming place. Crossplay, gender inversion of the character being cosplayed, is quite popular. Also, I have observed several homosexual couples fearlessly open at anime cons, and not just for a photo op.
All Eyes, And Lenses, On You
Speaking of photo ops, this is one of the factors that makes cosplay so empowering. Not only is the costume a great ice-breaker, there are throngs of con attendees that want to take your picture. So, you are effectively getting your ego stroked all day too. Access to mates and a massive boost in confidence; cosplay is tailor-made to get you laid.
The reciprocal voyeurism of this camera-friendly culture certainly seems like an obvious market for porn too. Not only have amateur cosplayers become professional adult models, but cosplay events then become the perfect venues to promote your business. How cool is that?
Not Just A Uniform
Make no mistake, cosplay is very different from a uniform fetish. The uniform fetish is about the established role the uniform represents, usually including a power disparity element. Cosplay is about a specific character, and the fantasy of being or making love to them.
That character could be well established, or it could be the creation of the cosplayer exercising their own agency. There is no better example of this than Star Wars cosplay. Sure, you may see random Jedi #328 walking around a con, but go to talk to them. Ask them about their costume. I can almost guarantee you will hear a rich, self-created backstory. This is where cosplay and fanfic become one.
3DX Cosplay Collaboration
The 3DX Discord group just completed their cosplay collaboration. It’s a wonderful tribute to characters we love, and that’s what cosplay is all about. All of the images in this article are sourced from this project, and several of the artists are featured here at Affect3D too. You should go check it out.
Fantasy Becomes Reality
Living your fantasy is really at the heart of cosplay. Having your fantasy partner is at the heart of cosplay sex. You’re not just fucking a cop, your fucking Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine! Uniform. Cosplay. See the difference? Much more specific.
Cosplay is a wonderful cultural experience. It can be fulfilling individually, socially, and sexually. Why not give it a try and take your hobby to the next level? Go get your waifu.
