Lord Kvento is an artist that needs little introduction. For a long time, he has provided us with beautiful little sets of fantasy and sci-fi, mixing in beautiful women with outrageous creatures. He’s also well known for offering his fair share of futanari. About 18 months ago, we chatted with him about his work at that time, with an intense focus on new image sets. Now he has taken the plunge and gone all out with his first full animation, Eralin and Meralin!
We spoke with Kvento about what has change over the past several months in his career, as well as his move from image sets to animation. We also asked about his favorite past times, futas and monster sex, and what makes them so irresistible. Enjoy!
(Full disclosure: The writer and interviewer in this article wrote some scripts for Eralin and Meralin. To learn more about that process, visit this post on the writer’s blog.)
First, let’s talk about you a little bit. What has changed in your work in the 18 months or so since we last spoke?
So many changes! The most important thing during this time is that I got a great amount of experience. I liked before that I could write the scripting for all of this work, but now I can do it in more detail! It helps me at this stage with posturing the characters, among other things. And now I’m able to more clearly express the story in pictures, which was a very important experience to have in animation, and of course perform more detailed work on the characters and their story. I have also become immersed in the fantasy genre more deeply than before.
The last 3DX artist I spoke with, Hitman_X3Z, is also Russian and deeply involved in the fantasy genre. Is that just a coincidence, or is there a really large following for fantasy in your country?
I do not think that it has anything to do with Russia itself. Although we have a lot of nature and forest and wild places, the basis of inspiration for me is the inner urge to create a fantasy world regardless.
What do you yourself like about that genre?
I like to think that once you’re inside, there is nothing but mysterious creatures, wild untamed lands filled with magic, and beautiful girls 🙂 I love magic! It’s something that can be very interesting, unpredictable and even dangerous.
And yet the fantasy genre is a fictional world where you can really do anything. You can create any monster or character, and explain its existence without grounding its basis in reality. I believe that’s why the genre is so popular.
Many of your prior works center on futanari. What drew you to this concept, and what do you find most fun about using these types of characters?
I’ve always been interested in this genre! I didn’t work with them from the start because I was not prepared for the two female characters in the scene. I did not have enough experience and I didn’t want to produce something that wasn’t high quality.
But I like it now! I like that when a futanari has sex with another girl, it’s with her own natural cock and not some strap-on. I think the most important moments in this genre are tenderness, femininity and sensuality. It’s something you don’t see in other genres.
And the most important for me that the futa is still very much a girl in her nature and can express those sentiments. It is this aspect for me is the basis of my enjoyment of them, and I’ll never change!
While this animation does not have any, you’ve also done a lot of work centered around monster sex. What has been the appeal to you in using these creatures?
What attracted me to monster sex was the crudeness of these creatures. I like that, while being in the grip of the monster’s lust, she may be afraid of it, but deep down she really loves having sex this way. I also like the contrast – the sexy girl with the hideous monster! I also really like that tentacles stifle the movement of the girl yet bring her pleasure by filling all her holes. This is something I wanted to do for a long time, but did not dare because of certain difficulties. It took too much time.
Now, let’s talk a little bit about your animation work. When did you start seriously considering animating your work?
I was really interested in animation, but I only started seriously thinking about it earlier this year. Like many of those involved in 3DX, I used to dream that someday that I would become an animator or something like that. But after learning about the complexities of routine work, I decided that it wasn’t for me, and forgot about it. Now, after several years of work on simple images, I realized that it wasn’t as difficult as I believed. And then I thought, why not give it a try?
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in animating Eralin and Meralin? While this is your first full animation, your previous project seemed like a transition from doing sets to this, since it contained both images and short animations.
I decided that I had enough experience with rendering pictures and began to work on animation. The first work with animation was “Twin Sisters,” and that project gave me some ideas about my weaknesses in the field, which helped me continue.
But animated inserts are quite different from creating a full animation. For the inserts in “Twin Sisters,” I used Daz Studio. But DS is very inconvenient to use for animation purposes, since there were not many of the necessary tools to complete the process, and the process was very slow. So I decided to work entirely in Cinema 4D. I moved the characters from DS to Cinema 4D, made rigging and set morphs, and after that began to work on the postures. I used the “pose to pose” method of animation and it is through this that I created the entirety of “Eralin and Meralin”.
Cinema 4D has many useful tools for animation, but when I started out everything took a lot of time to use. For nearly every day over the course of a month I worked on the poses and facial expressions. The process went slowly due to my lack of experience and knowledge in the field of animation. But I must say that miro gave me a lot of good advice when animating these girls, for which I owe many thanks! I am definitely satisfied with the overall result, and doesn’t happen often! I’m usually unhappy with the final result. But like any artist, I see that I could do even better and try to take my mistakes into account with future work. Of course “Eralin and Meralin” is only my second animation, but I think I managed to do it much better than “Twin Sisters”!
What do you like about animating?
I like the freedom of action! With a set of images, it is often necessary to find a compromise between what you want to show and what will be readable and understandable to the audience. With animation, this problem is much easier to handle. Actions are planned – and then revealed. It becomes a deep dive into the atmosphere of what is happening. If you properly convey the atmosphere by finding the right angle to view it, you can get a great viewing experience!
Are there any significant differences in the tools you use for both animation and image sets?
As I said earlier, for a set of images I use Daz Studio to create the characters and put them into a pose, and then I transfer the material in Cinema 4D for rendering with the plugin Octane Render. In the animation, I only need to create the characters in Daz Studio, and the main work of animating and rendering I perform at the same time in Cinema 4D.
Is animation what you’re sticking with from now on, or will you do image sets again in the future?
I think the couple of works will be image sets, and then I’ll take on a new animation. This is due mainly to the fact that I would like to gain more knowledge in the field of animation. I will go and take some animation courses with renewed vigor!
Without necessarily going into too much detail, what should we expect from you after this project?
Most likely it will be a new story and universe, along with a new girl.
While it seems like there’ll be more adventures with Meralin and Eralin in the future, do you have any other ideas that you’re looking to create or stories that you want to go back to?
I have some ideas in the monster sex genre, as well as in sci-fi. I can only say right now that I’m currently working on the script.
But there certainly will be a continuation of the “Eralin and Meralin” story!
Where can we find you online?
At the moment, I have done very little to update my blogs because of the lack of time. I apologize to everyone who reads me, but I will fix this soon 🙂 Also, I have some problems with my regular website that I will try to solve in the near future.
