What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
As the title mentions, I wanted to know what other people think of the StudioFOW group.

Just curious, as when they announced their latest project, they did their usual trick of badmouthing another 3D artist, LordAardvark in this particular case.

Looking at it, the people they slag off, its always people who do nice work. And after checking stuff out, it seems they had approached LordAardvark in the past to help with their previous project, and because he had refused, they seem to have decided to make him a target.

Its annoying, as despite the fact all their work seems to be focused on rape, they do seem to make stuff with decent quality. But it feels like they cant help but be complete arses/brats when it comes to other artists.

I find it hard to support a group like them when they act like this, especially when it also makes them appear so full of themselves.

These are people drinking their own kool-aid, that's all I can say. I've seen their work and it does nothing for me, so they're certainly not beyond being turned down by fellow artists. They appear to disagree, which is unfortunate.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
lol

The petulance from Studio FOW is so clear to anyone who spends more than a minute grasping the issue.

They get so mad when they can't cut corners and have to actually assign resources to one of their hires to get the work done. The dude that happened to turn them down in the past just happens to also be a person who put out an incomplete model on SFMlab that fits the project they're doing. They want that model, because their fanbase wants that model, because there's no better fit out there right now.

Except it's incomplete, so they need him to fix it, but they're too socially inept to figure out how to go about doing it without burning bridges. Their blogposts and PR material have always been about the razor sharp edgy attitude. Everything is 10/10 4clever5me to get the lowest common denomenator to fork over for their Patreon.

Which, there's nothing wrong with, unless you can't drop the attitude when you're conducting business and you can't take 'No' for an answer without flying off the handle.

Oops.

So now they have to fix it themselves.

"Waaah, I have to do work now because I pissed off the person that might have done it for me, whose model my fanbase wanted. ;_; I'll make another edgy blogpost to cover up my ineptitude and bait a response."

The one advantage Aardvark had was the fact that he does his stuff for fun, while FOW can't put the shit out they want without Patreon donations.

So he really had no obligation to go on the defensive. Even if he did it could've been a simple one or two liner.

"Sorry. I've already said I don't have the time to fix it. I do this for fun. You're welcome to take what's there and fix it yourself"

Probably should've kept it at that. But oh well.

just lol

The attitude from them is hilarious when watching their blog, their stuff is ok it's decent. but i'll believe it when i see it when they said there would be less rapey and more casual going around in Bioshag lol.

I kinda agree on releasing a half ass model was dumb, but Studio FOW could of went a better route instead of reigniting a old argument and etc, if the guy is still not willing to fix the model then your stuck redoing it yourself so complaining about it is not going to do anything for you.

But their attitude and stuff is really going to make it hard for them.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
I didn't realize there was any politics or in-fighting between that community as I only casually follow them, usually when people send me links to trailers of their upcoming releases. So my opinion on the group is just on the work.

I feel that they have very talented animators. I just wish they put them to better use creating original titles not created in Source Filmmaker. Using low poly decimated game meshes for this type of close up work just seems a waste of skill, and it does nothing for me in an erotic sense.

I'd gladly outsource my comic animation work to them if they knew how to use the software I use; that's how much I respect the quality of the animation. Too bad they work in the medium they work in. Oh well.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
Apart from being able to do a copy and past of what Epoch wrote, I would say that they should perhaps just put some work into this. Its a shame when people seem to be able to put out some decent stuff but behave like fools when it comes to dealing with other people, especially when you want to create some income based off the good will of other people.

Are they doing most of the movies for free and funding themselves completely through patreon?

I saw that Lara movie and it was okay, but yeah, low poly and closeups usually doesnt cut it. It only works for scenic animations and stuff that shortly races through the camera focus when its a bit closer up.

Oh, and let me guess. FOW = Full Of Win? That would explain the attitude Wink

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say this Smile

Dont know about infighting but they do snap back when threaten even though the threatening is harmless lol

Yes every movie done so far is released for free and the funding comes from patreon members the last time i read.

moving to another system and releasing titles with the same genre of stuff they are currently working on would be cool just because of the whole going from low poly to G4E quality. Dont forget there was an announcement of source engine 2 ontop of unreal engine 4 for free.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
I really dont like the rape they bring into their movies. I took at look at their stuff as I was curious but I watched it once and deleted it off my system. I did find it disturbing and if that was what they were going for then mission accomplished but that is not what I want out of a porn movie.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
I think Lara in trouble was hilarious, because I could actually see things going the way they do in the movie if the game's plot were realistic and because it used voice samples from the game itself. One young attractive woman captured on an island full of half-crazy sex starved men? How could it go any other way? I burst out laughing when one guy tries to stick it in her mouth for the first time and she goes "wait, what are you doing?" But Kunoichi was waaay too long and repetitive, and that mewling that is the norm for women in Japanese porn didn't help matters. Those adult women moaning like children is a major turnoff.
Yes, I know it's rape and it's bad and all, but it's just a poorly drawn 3d animation so I'll make no apologies. Nobody bats an eye when killing people over and over again in Half Life or when someone gets their spine ripped out in Mortal Kombat 9. Nowadays, I just can't help but see the sexual subtext in every thing I used to read or watch as a child, and it's no more (or less) disgusting than Lara in trouble.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
I also think their animation and presentation is good.

And yes if you can feature killing you should be able to feature rape. The problem is this. Violence is socially accepted, sex/ porn is not. Unfortunately if this got any sort of attention today, it would pull sex and porn further down into "let's ban that shit" territory, is it really that hard to see? Just, further ammunition and easy target for the radical feminists.

I don't mind shock and depraved porn in certain circumstances, but there's a time and place for everything and our current culture is not it.

I hope I'm wrong Smile

I feels it's worth mentioning that they are fairly new to the 3DX community as they released their first project only a year ago, hopefully they'll learn that badmouthing other artist just makes you look like a jerk in due time.

RE: What are peoples opinions on StudioFOW?
the video trailer definitely intrigued me before they released kunoichi, but I was highly dissapointed when i saw the low poly characters, I enjoy quality and I believe if there models were alot more smoother than they could go a long way.

I'm 90% sure there is a way to import models into sfm without having to use models from video games, why not create models yourself that are very similar to these official video game characters.

also badmouthing other artists is not the way to go. We all gotta grow up somehow and that is one example of not growing up and thinking like an adult.

i give it a 6 out 10 for bad attitude Undecided

Amused to see that they are getting attention from corrupt journalists over at Kotaku, one of the crazy ones too who thinks that men and porn are bad. Go figure she chooses the worst possible 3D art group to attack 3DX as a whole.

In the end, the article seems to be all about being click bait, and making it loosely affiliated with video games, as if they are what causes people to want to see porn. The amusing part is that their attitude reminds me a lot of the guys from Glee. Can't get the artists who did a popular song on board? Call them names and try and shame them to do it.

For those interested, here's an archive of the article (I refuse to link to it directly, Gawker and all it's affiliate need to burn, so get no ad revenue from me) https://archive.today/imUN3

just as I thought, let's hope it doesn't end in a shit storm, hope it doesn't cause issues with Patreon

I'm just wondering though, is it just me or did it sound like the writer wasn't negative actually?

She actually was not negative at all she threw her opinion out there, but she did her research pretty good and actually asked a founder of the studio it was actually one of the decent articles i have read about such stuff instead of going down the witch hunt approach.

Well, if they chose someone like Eclesi4stik who does vanilla sex (no disrespect meant, I like his renders) it wouldn't help their bullshit claims, now would it?
Another thing that has interesting legal implications is whether accepting donations using patreon can be considered "charging" and making money off intellectual property. Sure, they do release those things for free, but they do get quite a lot of money in donations.
