I’m back with yet another piece by Balassa. It’s no secret what a fan I am of his work, and for good reason. I made sure to detail his talents in my three-part tribute. However, there’s a lot left unsaid and I’m going to elaborate on his exceptional skills using Showertime For Two.
In this piece, we see yet another example of his deft hand at work. With the growing standards, good lighting, reflections and surfaces are to simply expected. However, Balassa recently raised the bar by consistently bringing in particle effects and volatile elements like rain, sand, steam and fog. The sepia-style filter goes really well with the overall effect of hot water raining down on the fit figures of his models. Rising steam adds a level of realism and diffuses the light, accentuating both of their curvaceous bodies.
In his pieces, all genders get equal attention. Here, the two together really focus in on the duality of the themes at play. Another testament to Balassa’s attention to detail are the props used to make the setting more realistic. The bathroom has towel rods, safety handles and even a rack of bath essentials. Furthermore, we can see that the models are wearing rings, establishing a supposed relationship between the two. All this really brings the piece together. As we watch the scene unfold, there’s a striking amount of awe for the skill it took to compose.

June 18, 2017Amazing piece and great summary. I can’t tell if I’m obsessing over his muscle toning or the lighting ambience more.
