One of the most common themes in the world is dark vs. light. Some say we, as humans, find the line of separation between the two one of the most fascinating things on the planet. We have an obsession with it. We work it into our fiction, our history and our art. It’s possible that we do this because this reflects a war within ourselves between actions we say are good and actions we say are bad. So our fiction, history, and art are direct reflections of our deepest selves.
RGUS’s Bird of Paradise stands divided between the light and dark and is changed by each. Based on which perspective you personally enjoy more, either someone is one with the shadows as a positive, or the shadows are slowly consuming the light. But I believe she is, in fact, that line we’re so obsessed with.
She stands boldly in the middle, in control. The shadows are not consuming her, the light is not enticing her to one side. She is sexy because she is in control of herself and both the negative and positive aspects of her powers. She knows what she wants and what she must do. On one hand, the darkness allows her to face the worst of humanity. On the other, the light allows her to find the good things about it. A Bird of Paradise walks the line of separation. But when looking at her, it can only be called a silver lining.
