There are very few things in this world as weird as the fantasy genre’s concept of female battle armor. I mean, some of the stuff they think women might be able to fight in is absurd. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, right?
It’s pretty great to imagine a woman who was so incredibly powerful that they could run into battle with nothing more than a chain mail bikini. And believe me, I know how very little protection those offer: I wore one at a convention once and almost froze my nipples off. But fantasy has no bearing on practicality, so let’s focus on the very pretty and scantily clad Elawen.
Elawen is a powerful mage. Calling the wind to obey her takes no more effort than thinking on it. She understands that her powers and her body come from nature and to nature they will return. I think her outfit is a full embrace of that ideal, displaying it proudly. Her armor looks like the embrace of a tree, with leaves around her waist and vines around her pussy. Her arm bracers are not for protection, but as a reminder of her power. With or without her magic, she can use those pointy metal spikes to rip your heart out through your chest and incinerate it with lightning.
The best part of this image, I think, is the lighting. It is done masterfully and on so many levels. The evening sky, the shadows in the hollows of her body, and the darkness behind the wall add to the image. It places that contrast of darkness and light to the forefront with this character; and it suggests on a metaphorical level that maybe she isn’t really bad. Maybe she’s just drawn that way.
