“Give me my robe. Put on my crown. I have immortal longings in me. Now no more the juice of Egypt’s grape shall moist this lip.”
Who better to express the exquisite nature of this Egyptian beauty than Shakespeare himself? As for the artist, the talented Rgus leaves us with an enigmatic but playful inscription “Getting lost in the ruins…” as sole description. We are free to interpret that as we will. Indeed, for my part, I imagine a warm sun-baked afternoon along the shores of the Nile, pursuing this nubile beauty through the arcades of a long forgotten temple. Perhaps this is Cleopatra, staring provocatively into the eyes of her lover Marc Anthony. Regardless of who she may be, what I love here is the character’s pose. She leans elegantly against the column, one leg running up the other. Everything about her body language, coupled with that intense gaze, suggests that she wants us to step closer. Not only this but Rgus has “dressed” her with just the right amount of fabric. This Egyptian queen, like any modern day seductress, knows exactly what to bare and conceal, rendering herself all the more appealing.
This artist continues to offer up original and beautifully detailed work.
