It wasn’t that long ago where if you had an idea for a project and needed funding, you had to talk to big companies or investment firms about funding and manufacturing your product. Whatever you had created was in the hands of a few people. They decided whether or not your product was marketable or worth perusing. They decided whether or not the consumers would want to buy it and there’s probably a chance they reject your idea, possibly missing out on a goldmine. Sure, you probably lose some of your intellectual property, maybe even all of it. At least, your product was out. But for some people, the idea of losing their intellectual property was not worth the risk. Luckily, the internet has changed that.
Think about it. A few years ago, you had to be on TV, magazines, or movies to be a celebrity. Now, you can make a few videos, post them online and become a Youtube sensation. The same thing has happened with funding. Instead of having to go through investors just to have them consider selling your product and changing it, you can go online and present your idea to the consumers. Crowdfunding has changed the way we do business, allowing us to personally make an investment ourselves with other like-minded individuals. Many sites have been able to provide this service like Kickstarter. But there’s one in particular we want to discuss and that’s Offbeatr.
Kickstarter is one of the biggest crowdfunding sites out there with dozens of projects being successfully funded every day. I’ve even pledged in a few projects. There’s just one drawback: There’s no porn allowed.
That’s where Offbeatr comes in. It allows for the more adult-oriented projects that Kickstarter doesn’t want to take. From porn-based games to movies and comics, you can do whatever you want. You don’t have a company changing it to whatever they want it to be. Whatever your idea is sticks with people supporting it through votes (to help start the project’s investing phase) and pledges.
And that’s the great thing. It proves people are willing to spend money on porn. $1, $10, $50, even $1,000. Whatever a person wants to pledge can help a project. And sometimes, the community helps in a big way. Take for example, Fenoxo’s recent project Trials In Tainted Space. The goal was $10,000 to make the game. It ended up making nearly $200,000. Or Kaliyo’s Roundscape, which we featured on the site not too long ago. The project goal was $4,500, yet it ended up making over $38,000. Now, I’m not saying all projects will surpass their funding goal by a huge margin. Some don’t even get close to their goal. Some are just able to hit their funding. It does show the level of interest people have in getting these projects funded and created.
The potential of what can be achieved has been made possible through a site like Offbeatr. As the industry changes, so will the content now that people can help be part of the development cycle. Artists will be able to create more sophisticated projects with great production values and in-depth storylines without the need for physical actors. There’s a possibility that 3DX can go further with crowdfunding. The next big thing in porn could be found on Offbeatr. As long as people are interested, you can get help to make your dream a reality.

Yeah, no kidding. Just as Xerox about a little thing called a GUI (Graphical User Interface)

September 17, 2013Seeing some of the stuff that Xerox PARC had invented is quite shocking because they didn’t pursue them any further outside of research and development. They could’ve been a huge computer manufacturer instead of just being the printer company.
