I’d like to draw your attention to a most shocking human rights abuse….The British government is trying to ban porn in the UK! Even worse is the fact that this horrendous potential injustice receives little coverage in the UK media. Luckily for our British readers affect3d’s gaze is global and nothing escapes our sight. I’m sure we all agree that minors should be protected from explicit material and that more needs to be done to eradicate the illegal horrors that lurk in the dark corners of the Internet, but is a total blanket ban on all porn really the answer?
Ironically the majority of the British government are all aristocrats and members of the upper-class, and we all know the rich and powerful have never indulged in sexual debauchery and hedonistic abandon throughout history and up to the present day right?

August 16, 2013As far as I’ve informed myself, I thought anyone over 18 could choose to opt out of the filter on their internet connection? Essentially this new law applies only to families with kids and not to others (Except maybe for the hussle of asking your provider to opt you out, not that big a deal).
I agree that the ‘filter by default’ stance is a bit extreme, but this article seems a bit exagerated/misinformed as to the real extent of the law.

August 17, 2013Yes, indeed you can opt-out, but we all know where censorship and filters lead – look at China for an “appropriate” use of filtering. And yes the article is tongue in cheek/ exaggerated pretty much in line with the outrageous claims a certain UK prime minister is making about the “harms of porn”.

August 16, 2013Oh man. Another bad idea with (I think) good intentions. I’m definitely opposed to any “victimless crime” where people ban things because a group of people think it’s indecent. Banning something just funnels it to the black market. If something like this were to pass people would still seek out there adult entertainment, and in doing so would be supporting those illegal horrors in the dark corners of the internet (or worse) just by buying stuff most would consider “normal.” Geez I hate it when naive people make laws like this.

August 16, 2013A total ban would never work. Look at prohibition in the U.S. Everybody still drank, it just was more expensive and caused a lot of violence. Kind of how the “Drug War” is going now. If you couldn’t tell, I’m from the U.S. Conservatives drive me bonkers in this country too.
